Common Causes Of Motorcycle Accidents

Just earlier this year, there was a crash that led 4 people to get seriously injured on I-264 in Virginia Beach. The accident involved 4 people on their motorcycles. They were part of a large group of 8 motorcyclists who were weaving in and out of traffic.

Riding a motorcycle is fun and exciting. That is why there is a growing number of motorcycle enthusiasts. Are you a motorcycle enthusiast as well?

However, along with that fun and excitement is the risk for serious injuries. If you are involved in a motorcycle crash, it would be great if you could just brush the dust off of yourself and ride again. That’s not always the case. Most often than not, motorcycles involved in a crash will need towing because they are damaged. Additionally, riders also receive serious injuries.

Even with that risk, many motorcycle riders still choose to use their motorcycles as much as they can. If you are one of them, you should at least be careful while driving on the road. There are many causes of motorcycle accidents on the road. Among the most common are those below:

Inexperience

It’s an amazing experience to finally find your balance and make the motorcycle run. However, that isn’t enough and you shouldn’t be haphazardly riding your motorcycle. You should still drive carefully and train more so you can better control your motorcycle.

Sometimes, the conditions on the road and how you handle your motorcycle while riding it could lead to a crash. It is best to always proceed with caution when riding in conditions you haven’t experienced.

At times, some new riders might also not know how to properly respond to situations. Quick thinking should be utilized but sometimes, you just don’t know what to do because you haven’t experienced it before. There are times when your response is the right thing to do and there are also times that it isn’t.

Influence Of Alcohol

Driving under the influence of alcohol is not a good idea. That’s also true for riding a motorcycle. Alcohol can lower your reflexes and reduce your reaction time. Aside from alcohol, some also take a ride under the influence of other illegal substances.

Vehicles Taking A Left Turn

Many of the recorded accidents that caused serious injuries to motorcycle riders are due to a vehicle that is turning left with a motorcycle that is moving straight ahead, overtaking the vehicle or another vehicle.

Motorcycles are smaller than vehicles and that makes them much more difficult to see. Some drives don’t take their time watching out for them. They think that the road is clear because there are no cars but they fail to notice the motorcycles.

Speeding

Riding at the top speed of your motorcycle can be thrilling and fun but it can also cause a fatal accident. Roads have maximum speed limits for a reason and motorcycles aren’t exempted from it.

Distracted Driving

Whether it is a vehicle driver or a motorcycle rider that’s distracted, it could lead to accidents that can cause the life of the rider. Whenever you are riding the motorcycle, avoid getting distracted. It can be by texting or using your phone.

However, it can also be other things like focusing your attention on the side of the road because of the lovely view. Anything that gets your attention off of controlling your motorcycle is a distraction you should avoid.
